Hydrate – drink a glass of water. The health benefits alone are worth the effort and it is something your body needs on both the inside and out. At a minimum, water helps energize your muscles and can mitigate fatigue.
Oxygenate – they say eight deep breaths can reboot the body. The act of deep breathing relaxes the body and when you blow out all that dirty air you are eliminating toxins from your system which improves your immunity, mood and energy levels.
Elongate – the simple stretch can increase your circulation and enhance your coordination. Focus your stretches in the areas of the body where you frequently hold your stress. Stretch regularly – not just when stiff.
Celebrate – the first three “ates” are common sense. This fourth element tends to be the most neglected. Do you allow yourself small celebrations every day? Celebration is about marking one’s pleasure. It doesn’t need to be done with confetti or cake. Sometimes a mark of one’s pleasure is spending a couple extra minutes in the shower, wearing your favorite outfit or lingering with the dog on your patio before heading to work. Perhaps it’s listening to your preferred music in the car or calling a friend at lunch. We tend to reward ourselves by indulging in food or alcohol – and in moderation, this type of celebration is just fine. However, there are thousands of ways to celebrate ourselves every day that don’t involve food or drink. Find something small each day that is a mark of your pleasure and enjoy it. Often these are things done without notice. When we pay attention to them as small celebrations it creates different perspective.
July 4th is the perfect week to start a new tradition! How will you celebrate today?
