These elephants are the undiscussable topics that go unnamed. It’s the history between two people that’s never been resolved; it’s the hierarchy within an organizational that impedes decision making; it’s the lack of psychological safety to say how you feel about something; ultimately the elephant represents a fear or an issue that makes us tense and uncomfortable. Most of the time, everyone is aware of the elephant but no one let’s on it’s in the room. If we speak up and acknowledge there is an elephant will others join in the acknowledgement? Will we be alone? What “face” will be lost?
